How to Apply

EU and EEA applicants

 

Step 1: Fill and prepare the following:

  1. Application form ;

  2. Original or notarized copy of completed secondary education diploma and diploma supplement specifying the period of attendance and the grades;

  3. Certificate for recognized secondary education issued by the Regional Management of Education (https://ruo-sofia-grad.com/). The certificate contains the grades in the different subjects recalculated according to the Bulgarian grading system. For the purpose, applicants should submit their original high school diploma and supplement (legalized and translated into Bulgarian) the one of the offices of RME. The Certificate is issued within 1 month.;

  4. A copy of the first page of your passport or other identification documents with your names in Latin letters;

  5. Two recent passport-size photos;

  6. Copies of all your language certificates.
    Applicants to programs taught in English whose native language is not English must present proof of English language proficiency.

      The documents under 2), 3), 4) must be officially legalized in the country where secondary education has been completed, then translated into Bulgarian and legalized.

An APOSTILLE Certificate is required for the countries who have signed the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.

Step 2: Write an admission essay up to 4 standard pages. The text should be in Bulgarian or English on one of the three topics announced by the relevant departament (download list). Please download and fill the form for the essay.

 

Step 3: If you apply for one of the following programs below you have to register for a specialized exam:

NETWORK TECHNOLOGIES

(in English)

English language test for level B2.

Applicants submitting a valid internationally recognized certificate test of English language proficiency are exempt from the examination.

MUSIC

Live audition: musical performance (voice/instrument), dancing, electronic music instrumental or sample of work with audio production & recording software.

POLITICS AND SOCIETY

(in English)

English language examination to evaluate applicant’s communicative competence (conversation on general topics) and proficiency level (story retelling and test).

PSYCHOLOGY

(in English)

English language test for level B2.

Applicants submitting a valid test score on an internationally recognized test of English language proficiency are exempt from the examination.

THEATER

Live audition (monologue), a scene study (acting or movement) or a dance of applicants’ choice.

 

 

If you apply for a Bulgarian language program your first year of study will be preparatory and you'll be studying only Bulgarian language, sport and computers.

International students who want to apply for a program taught in English should submit an internationally recognized valid certificate of English proficiency, otherwise they will have to pass a computer-based online English test.

Step 4: Submission of the application package can be done:

  • Via post or courier to the official address of the university: 21 Montevideo Str., 1618 Sofia, Bulgaria, for International Relations Office.

Step 5: Registration as a student at the International Relations Office at the Student center, Building 1.

 

Important

 

Please note that only applicants who have did the entry exam (essay) and have submitted the whole set of the required application documents (legalized, translated into Bulgarian language and certified) as per our requirements and within the deadlines, would be admitted to our programs. 

  Applicants should enroll within the announced deadlines, otherwise their original documents will be sent back within three months after they were notifyed about the positive result from the essay.

 

 

 

Non-EU applicants

 

Step 1: Fill and prepare the following:

If the country of the applicant is not a member the Hague Convention (did not sign it) the documents must be legalized by the Ministry of Education (Ministry of Health) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country of residence of the applicant and the Consular section of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in the respective country.

Legalized documents (documents with APOSTILLE stamps) need to be translated into Bulgarian in one of the following two ways:

  • by a consular or Diplomatic official in the country where the document is issued;​

      or

  • by a translation agency authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria (Translation offices in Bulgaria are offering this along with the translation service).

Step 2: The minimal average results of the educational subjects from the document for graduated secondary education, which have formed the grade for the speciality for which the person applies may not be lower than 62 percent of the maximal value according to the system of the country, in which the secondary education has been aquired.

Step 3: International students who want to apply for a program taught in English should submit an internationally recognized valid certificate of English proficiency, otherwise they will have to pass a computer-based online English test. Candidates can do the test only once for a campaign (the minimum score is 85 points out of 100). The applications of applicants with results below the treshold will not be proceeded and their documents will be send back.

For applicants who are citizens of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), Ireland, the United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, as well as for applicants who completed their secondary education in these countries, English language proficiency certification or English language proficiency test is not required.

 

Step 4: Submission of the application package can be done:

  • Via post or courier to the official address of the university: 21 Montevideo Str., 1618 Sofia, Bulgaria, for International Relations Office.

 

Step 5: NBU submits for approval the application to the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science. After taking decision on the application, either a Certificate on the right of the applicant to study (D-type Visa) is issued or a denial is received. The issuance of this document takes up to a month.

Once the University receives the Certificate, issued by the Ministry of Education and Science, the applicant will be then notified (by e-mail/ phone) to collect the Ministry Certificate personally from the University or by an authorized representative.

 

Step 6: After receiving the acceptance letters the applicant has to apply for Bulgarian Student Visa (D-type Visa) valid from 3 to 6 months. Bulgarian student Visa can be obtained from any Bulgarian Diplomatic Mission abroad and it is required to all non EU/EEA students in Bulgaria.

 

Step 7: Registration as a student at the International Relations Office at the Student center, Building 1.
