The textbook covers the biological variety in the modern animal world, paying special attention to taxonomic groups of animals, representatives of European and Bulgarian fauna. It studies the problems related to the extinct and threatened animal species and basic regulatory documents and conventions on protection of animal species. The aim of the textbook is to facilitate the rational use of biological resources of animal origin by the modern society and the preservation of these resources and unique animal gene fund for the future generations.
