“Scholarships” Fund of the New Bulgarian University provides one-year scholarships to the newly enrolled students with the highest admission grades. The scholarships are full and cover 100 % of the annual study fee.
Academic scholarships“Scholarships” Fund of New Bulgarian University provides scholarships to students in all full-time forms of study programs, who have completed at least one academic year at NBU. The scholarships are one-year and may be full and partial. The full ones cover 100 % of the annual study fee, and the partial – 80%. The criteria for granting are: grade higher than “excellent” (5,50) and more than 10 passed examinations (30 credits) during the previous academic year, approval of a program director and paid semester fee within the specified term without percent surcharge.
Social scholarships
“Scholarships” Fund of the New Bulgarian University provides scholarships for students in all full-time and distance study form programs, who have completed at least one academic year at NBU and belong to one of the following groups: students without parents or with one parent, disabled people, students with serious diseases, unmarried mothers, students, grown without parent cares, married students with more than one child. The scholarships are annual and cover 50 % of the annual study fee. The criteria for granting are: grade higher than “very good” (4,50) and more than 6 passed examinations (18 credits) during the previous academic year, as well as paid semester fee within the specified term without percent surcharge.
Continuing academic scholarship under HESP program
The scholarships are granted under HESP program, on a project, won by NBU, and are intended for newly enrolled students in the sphere of humanities and social sciences. The scholarships may be full or partial. Social scholarships under HESP program
The scholarships are granted by HESP program, on a project, won by NBU. The scholarships are intended for students in all full-time study form programs, who have completed at least one academic year at NBU and with family monthly income of less than two minimum salaries for the country. It is a ten month scholarship, paid every month. The students undertake the engagement to work at NBU for the time of receiving of the scholarship. Priority is given to students, belonging to one of the following groups: students without parents or with one parent, disabled people, students with serious diseases, unmarried mothers, students from the minority communities, students, grown without parent cares, married students with more than one child. The criteria for granting are: grade higher than “very good” (4,50) and more than 6 passed examinations (18 credits) during the last academic year, as well as paid semester fee within the specified term without percent surcharge. Each year the university grants a certain number of scholarships for newly enrolled post-graduate students in the doctoral programs of the Master Faculty after winning of a competition on a subject, defined by a department at NBU. Its duration is within the framework of the education in the doctoral program, but not more than 3 years. The amount is specified by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the New Bulgarian University. Scholarships from “Raina Kabaivanska” Fund
“Raina Kabaivanska” Fund of the New Bulgarian University grants national and international scholarships for opera singing training in Bulgaria and abroad. The scholarships are awarded by Raina Kabaivanska in person to the best opera artists, with best results of their education in her master class at NBU. System for student work and internship at the New Bulgarian University
The system for student work and internship consists in working of the students within the university. The work of the trainees is recognized as training internship. The trainees have priority in occupying of the available workplaces at the university structures. The remuneration of the student labor is in the form of a scholarship or hourly wages. The selection of the students for student work and internship within the university is done on a competition basis. The requirements for participation in the competition for student work and internship are: full-time form of study; at least one completed academic year; grade from the previous semester – higher than (4.50); enrollment in a new semester; the student shall not be granted a social scholarship under HESP program.
Program for distinguished students
The New Bulgarian University developed a “Research program for qualification in the sphere of scientific studies for distinguished students” for the students with grade higher than very good (5.00) of the first two years. The program is reviewed by the “Hanna Arend” Award Committee and is concerned with teachers from the University of Indiana and the University of New York, as well as from the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna and “Kober” Foundation in Germany. The program is studied in parallel with the major Bachelor program and provides for wide individual work, work on research projects, and team research work with the teachers. The program guarantees prestigious education.
Motivation for professional realization of the students
Each year New Bulgarian University issues a Catalogue of the best students, which is distributed by the Career Development Center at NBU among employers in Bulgaria and abroad. In the Catalogue, each student is presented by means of his experience, gathered throughout his training, his participation in research and international projects, the acquired educational degrees, defended thesis, internship, professional experience, interests, etc. Annual Rector’s Award
Each year, on the National Holiday of Bulgaria – 3rd March, the Rector of NBU bestows the award for best teacher, for best student and for best journalist, who has reflected objectively the Bulgarian higher education issues. Civic Honor Prize
“Dimitar Panitza” Fund of the New Bulgarian University adjudicates the Civil Courage Award. The award is bestowed to persons, groups of citizens or civil organizations, serving as a worthy example of public behaviour and, with their activity, consistently and durably consolidating the values of the high public morality and honesty, of the active and dedicated civil position, of the public dialogue, humanism and tolerance, in that way considerably contributing to the positive social change on local and national level. The award laureates shall have considerable contribution to the development of democracy and civil society of our country, not led by their personal interest and not just in the quality of good professionals, but as people, convinced, devoted and inspired by what they are doing. The award distinguishes persons, who demonstrate persistence and consistence, and often with the little they have, against all expectations and speculations, manage to change the lives of the people around them.

The Central Strategic Development Fund to the Board of Trustees of NBU funds educational activities – educative literature, textbooks, training aids and albums, as well as new forms of the study process – development of web-based education, winter and summer schools and universities; as well as scientific and creative projects, related to research works; scientific publications – monographs, year-books of departments, collections; scientific forums – conferences, seminars; creative projects – performances, exhibitions, fashion reviews, films, festivals and theatre schools. “Educational programs” Fund to the Schools
Each of the three faculties at NBU has its own “Educational Program” Fund, which is funding: projects, related to student education and activities – seminars, schools, practices, performances, concerts; projects, related to the participation of teachers in the programs of national conferences, concerts, lecturing and others (study-oriented trips within the country); projects for publishing of collections with student studies, textbooks and training aids; projects for development of multimedia, interactive and non-standard forms of teaching and educational process; projects for improvement of the programs’ facilities; projects for popularization of the NBU programs – advertising materials, presentations. “Publishing Activity” Fund to the Board of Trustees of NBU
The Fund is managed by the Publishing Council and funds the all-university training and scientific publications, which may be in favor of the educational policy of NBU. The university structures may apply for full or partial funding of publications to the “Publishing Activity” Fund by means of a project submitted to the Publishing Council. | ||
