Bachelor Program in Psychology
Objectives:
- Provide general knowledge of
main scientific achievements, research technologies and diagnostic methods
in modern Psychology;
- Give an understanding of the
mechanisms of generation, development and functioning of mental abilities
in human beings.
- Form essential professional
skills in applying appropriate methods of psychological diagnosis,
prognosis and consultations.
- Help students in learning and
acquiring skills for maintaining methods independent practical and
research work.
- Stimulate young individuals’
personal development.
Professional characteristics:
- Graduates with an academic
degree "Bachelor in Psychology" can: perform specialized
psychological activities in different fields of social practice and
economic - education, arts, medicine, business, etc; continue their
education in Master Programs at NBU (e.g. Cognitive Science, Clinical
Social Work, etc. Successful completion of the Bachelor Program does not
constitute a licence for independent psychotherapeutic practice, but is a
necessary prerequisite for admission to the Master Program.
Structure:
Duration: 8 semesters
- The academic degree "Bachelor
in Psychology" - 8 semesters (including 6 semesters from the
first degree course) , 150 credits (including 95 from the first degree
course).
Depending on students’ individual abilities and preferences, the duration
of their studies could be extended or shortened. Is it strongly
recommended that students meet the requirements for General Education
Courses at NBU during their first year of study.
Admission requirements:
- For the academic degree "Bachelor
in Psychology" - successful completion of the first degree
provided that:
- their GPA is least
4,50.
- 2. the grade for the
defense of Second Level Course Work is least 4,50.
Transfer requirements:
- Students from other
universities can apply for the program "Bachelor in
Psychology" and the Accreditation Commission of NBU can transfer
course credits from previous studies if they correspond to the curriculum.
Completion requirements:
In order to receive the academic degree of "Bachelor in
Psychology", students are supposed to defend a Bachelor Thesis and to
satisfy the rest of the requirements of the Program, as well as the
requirements for the General Education Courses at NBU.
Resources:
Several computer labs (RISC workstation
lab, IBM PC lab, and Macintosh lab), computer-based equipment for psychological
experiments, specialized Cognitive Science library, research facilities at
associated academic institutions.
