CREDIT CARDS AND PAYMENTS

Credit cards are not as commonly accepted in Bulgaria as in the EU or USA, especially if you want to withdraw cash in foreign currency. There are a lot of ATM's/cash machines where you may withdraw money with a credit or debit card in Bulgarian currency. The common way of paying in Bulgaria is in cash. Local Bulgarian currency is leva. The fixed exchange rate is 1 Euro = 1.9558 leva.

WEATHER

The weather in Bulgaria is usually very warm in July. Generally temperatures are around 27 C but they can go up to 35 C. Please note that this is not an official forecast.

VENUE

The conference will be held at the New Bulgarian University, 21 Montevideo Str, Sofia, look at the the map.

Click here to see the the route from hotel Rodina to NBU. You can take the special shuttle at 8:30 from the hotel, or the regular bus 260 every 15 min (but you will have to walk for 5 min from its Montevideo stop).

ACCOMMODATION

Conference participants are offered accommodation at preferential prices in a 4-star hotel in downtown Sofia. There will be a shuttle from the hotel to the Conference venue and back. Participants are strongly recommended to use the opportunity to book a room from the Conference block reservation. Please do not book your hotel rooms directly since the hotel will be charging higher prices. To book your room please use the Conference Registration form.

REGISTRATION

Conference Participation Fee - 250 Euro
Reduced Conference Fee for students - 150 Euro

(Registration at the conference venue is allowed, however additional 100 Euro will be charged in this case)

ARRIVAL

Taking a taxi from the Airport is a good option. There are currency exchange offices at the airport, however the exchange rate is quite high there so you may wish to exchange a small amount of money (~10-20 euros). Be careful when taking a taxi. In front of the airport there is a taxi stand and the taxi-company which officially provides services to the airport is called OK taxi - yellow cars inscribed with the phone number of the company (973-21-21). To get from the airport to the hotel by taxi will cost you approximately 18-20 leva (EUR 6-10). NB: Do not forget to check the rates of the taxi (shown in the bottom left corner of the windscreen). The rates should not exceed 0.80 leva per km. Making sure you have chosen the right taxi car is important since there are fake OK taxi cars which might charge you 5 or 10 times the usual price.

TRANSOPRTATION

There will be regular bus transportation every day from the hotel to the conference venue and back. The hours of departure will be announced additionally.

LIBRARY AND COMPUTERS

The university library has the following opening hours: 9:00 to 17:30 The library is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. You will be able to use the computer lab in the library. You may print materials and make Xerox copies against payment. NB! You may not take books or other materials out of the library.

CONFERENCE PARTICIPANT ID

You will receive a badge with your name and affiliation upon arrival at NBU. Please wear this badge at the university campus.
